Contrary to what you might think, white rhinos are not white. They are the color of the dirt they last rolled in. The 'white' is a perversion of 'wide', as these are wide lipped rhinos. In some perverse logic, the other rhino is called 'black', again color having nothing to do with anything. |
We came on a family of three twice. The latter time the rhino were in the road and were very close (perhaps fifty feet). We were blocking where they wanted to go. It was the only time I ever saw our guide, Jaacko, look nervous. Eventually they passed around use - very close to us. |
